You've booked your first shoot...now what?

You’ve booked your shoot and set a date and now I’m sure you're wondering what’s next. Don’t worry, I got you covered on how to get ready for your shoot.

The Basics

  • Make sure you hydrate properly before your shoot. Countless studies have shown that proper water intake has a direct effect on your health so drink up!

  • When it comes to skin care I want you to stick to your normal routine. If you want to get a facial or try out a new mask make sure you do it at least a week before your shoot. You want to give your skin time to soak in all those benefits and also time to heal if your skin reacts to any new products. If you do have a blemish or struggle with acne please don’t worry. Your final images will be retouched and it’s nothing to worry about.

  • If you choose to get a spray tan make sure you give yourself time to let it set properly and I would highly recommend going to a professional. there’s nothing worse than seeing you missed a spot or two!

  • Waxing or shaving is totally up to you.

  • Treat yourself to a mani pedi. A simple nude color or a bolder look is fine. Just make sure they doesn’t clash with the looks you’ve prepared.

Packing and Planning Your Outfits

I’m sure we’ve already discussed the type of look you are going for but just in case we haven’t here are a few of my personal favorite wardrobe go to’s.

  • White long-sleeve button up

  • Black skinny jeans

  • Super relaxed fit denim or a classic straight leg

  • Black bodysuit

  • Denim jacket

  • Classic blazer in neutral or bold colors

  • Pant/skirt suit

  • Sweater

  • Turtleneck

  • Dresses

  • White tennis shoes

  • Black or nude heels

  • Knee high boots with or without heel

  • Dresses! Skin-tight, flowy, or oversized will do

It’s important to pack at least three days before. This gives you enough time to put each look together as well as do any last minute shopping. Before you start packing, I would lay out all of your outfits with the accessories and try them on look by look. This way you can make changes beforehand and don’t have to worry about what your outfits during the shoot. Also, if an outfit just isn’t working, it’s ok! You can always contact me if you are having trouble or go back to the basics with the list of items I provided above. No matter what we’ll make it work.

Pro Tip: If you do go shopping and aren’t sure about the item don’t take the tag off. You want to be able to return it later if it doesn’t fit the vibe.

Your Accessories:

A little glam can go a long way but so can stacking a variety of pieces. Don’t be afraid to bring chunky jewelry, leather belts, scarves you can use to wrap your hair or around your waist, hats, and anything else you can use to add a high-fashion element to your outfit.

  • Jewelry

  • Head scarves

  • Large hats

  • Belts

Hair and Makeup

My suggestion if you’re new to applying makeup is to stick with a clean look. It’s fairly easy to accomplish and doesn’t require a lot of products. A clean look would include some concealer, a light application of foundation, blush, some bronzer, mascara, and brows. If you want to amp up your look during shoot I would suggest a bold lip color or even a darker color on the lid if you like. Just keep in mind that you want to use as much time shooting rather than doing your hair and makeup so pick something you can accomplish quickly.

For hair I would take the same approach as your makeup, keep it simple. Your natural hair is usually perfect but curls or braids are a great way to elevate your look.
